Hagan Invites North Carolina Students to Attend Academy Day on Sept. 22
Senator Kay Hagan invites all North Carolina 7th through 12th grade students interested in applying to a U.S. military service academy to attend Academy Day on September 22. Senator Hagan hosts Academy Day each year to give students an opportunity to meet with cadets and midshipmen from the service academies and to learn more about the nomination process. Students who apply to service academies require a nomination from a member of Congress. Academy Day is an opportunity for students to learn about the nomination process through Hagan's office.
"Each year, many of North Carolina's best and brightest apply to the U.S. service academies," Hagan said. "I encourage all students interested in seeking an academy nomination to attend this year's seminar to learn more about the five service academies and my nomination process. North Carolina is the most military friendly state in the nation and I am proud of all of our North Carolina students who are seeking a world-class academy education and want to serve our country."
Representatives from all five services academies - the U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, U.S. Military Academy, and U.S. Naval Academy - will provide information to students, parents and guidance counselors. ROTC representatives will also be on hand to talk with interested students about scholarship opportunities outside of the service academies.
Hagan comes from a proud military family. Her father-in-law was a two-star Marine General and her husband, father and brother all served in the Navy. Two of her nephews served in Iraq and Afghanistan.
Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Meet and mingle with Senator Hagan at 9:30 a.m.
