Roundtable Discussion

Senator Hagan believes our country’s unsustainable debt threatens America's ability to pursue our priorities and respond to crises. Since coming to the Senate, she has urged Democrats and Republicans to come together to work on a long-term, balanced and bipartisan plan to get our fiscal house in order. In talking with North Carolinians about this topic on her Budget Listening Tour, Senator Hagan heard firsthand that everyday citizens want commonsense solutions to our rising debt that require shared sacrifice.

With budgets everywhere stretched thin, Hagan has vowed never to balance the budget on the backs of seniors, servicemembers or middle class families. She opposed budget plans that turned Medicare into a voucher program while supporting reasonable balanced budget amendments that wouldn’t tie Congress’ hands in the event of an emergency while also protecting vital programs like Social Security.
